026 A Pioneering Pundit, a Pistol Purveyor, and a Petite Powerhouse Potpourri

This week some of the ProArms Team is on the road gathering new and exciting interviews. So, we went into the file of choice interviews that we save for special occasions. We start off with a great interview Gail did with Tom Gresham last June when they were in Hannibal Mo, filming segments for Personal Defense TV.

Next we, we have recent interviews with two very special women. First you’ll meet Kate Krueger, who owns Derby Guns in Scottsdale, Arizona and has flourished in a world where gun shops are traditionally run by males. Finally, hear the inspiring story of 21-year-old Anna Gunter’s journey into both armed and unarmed combat skills, and how she, alone, backed down a gang of punks who approached her with obvious nefarious intent.

018 Crimson Trace Laser Grips and Laser Sights Review

Finally we present our much awaited, much requested episode on Crimson Trace Laser Grips and Sights. We all use them for a variety of purposes and hope we can answer some of our listener questions here.

First we’ll start off with a link to Crimson Trace so you can see just what we are talking about: http://www.crimsontrace.com/

Chris Christian could not be with us on the day we recorded so we are posting what he had to say here:

Many shooters find that with just minimal practice the CTC sights can be instinctual to use in a stress situation. You know that I’m a well trained shooter, practice regularly, and am always among the Most Accurate at the one or two IDPA matches I shoot each month. I know what iron sights look like, and how to use them I also have CTCs on three “working” guns. The CTCs are zeroed, but I don’t practice with the lasers much at all ( I may go months without firing a single round with them).Virtually all my practice is with my iron sighted match guns. NOW.. WITH ALL THAT SAID… When I went through LFI 1 last year we did the video “Shoot/Don’t Shoot” drills. Steve’s J-frame (empty) with CTC was the gun we used. There is a significant degree of stress facing the video with the whole class watching. Your conscious mind is attempting to evaluate the situation and take the proper course of action. The first scenario I faced was the old fart with the crowbar at the back of the house who suddenly turns and charges you with it raised. It happens very fast! I quickly double tapped him in the upper COM (Sniper’s Triangle, Golden Triangle, whatever you want to call it). Steve commented ” Good hits.” I knew they were because I could see the laser. BUT I DO NOT CONSCIOUSLY REMEMBER SEEING THE IRON SIGHTS. When that threat materialized quickly, under stress, the gun was properly presented to the target and that bright red dot became my immediate sub-conscious focus point. It overrode years of iron sight training. It completely dominated my sub-conscious mind and the double tap hits were instinctive. If the laser had not been present I would have made hits with the iron sights… but not as fast, and not as accurately. My experience… and my opinion… is that a shooter with some level of training will bring the gun on target, and seek some degree of sight picture/sight alignment. If the laser isn’t visible due to light levels or background it is a non-factor, ignored by the sub-conscious, and iron sight training takes over. If the laser is brightly visible it seems to AUTOMATICALLY OVERRIDE that… sub-consciously… and becomes the focal point. And, it doesn’t seem to take a lot of training to have that occur. When things happen quick & close that bright red dot will drive the sub-conscious mind, Just a thought. Chris

First Video is Mas demonstrating how the Crimson Trace Lasers can be used for teaching and improving your own shooting.

013 The “Snubby” Revolver

The ProArms team tries something different for this episode. Normally our producer (me) spends a lot of time editing each podcast, taking out the umms, ahhhs, creaks and any bad words that might occur. This time we are presenting it to you in all its unedited glory. Don’t worry; it still has a PG rating. Sometimes we talk at the same time and interrupt each other. Here you will see what one of our recording sessions really sounds like. Go on over to the Gun Rights Radio forum to let us know if you like this episode; just click the box in the upper left hand side of this page to get there. We talked about so much in this podcast all the links are listed below along with a couple of gun specific fora that may be of interest to aficionados of a particular brand.

008 All Girl Review!

The Girls take over the Podcast! Terri and Gail are your hostesses for this marathon Podcast . Gail once again takes her recorder on the road and she talks with three of the top female firearms trainers in the country.

First we talk to Vicki Farnam who is vice-president of Defense Training International and co-author of the books “Teaching Women to Shoot: A Law Enforcement Instructor’s Guide” and “Women Learning to Shoot: A Guide for Law Enforcement Officers “ We talk to Vicki about her popular class for men who teach women how to shoot.

Next we hear from Gila Hayes of The Firearms Academy of Seattle and The Armed Citizen’s Legal Defense Network. Gila is the author of “Effective Defense”, field editor for Women and Guns Magazine , and has published articles in numerous magazines. She talks to us about women buying that first gun among other things.

The last and longest of our interviews is with Kathy Jackson of the Cornered Cat website, a fountain of knowledge about firearms. Kathy is also the Managing Editor of Concealed Carry Magazine as well as an accomplished firearms instructor. We talk at length about women carrying a concealed weapon and methods of carry specific to the female. We also talk about a tragic accident where a little girl shot herself with her grandmother’s gun; you can read that story here. Kathy told a couple of other stories illustrating why carrying your gun in your purse is not a good idea, I have posted them in the “Episode Discussion” area for the ProArms Podcast at the Gun Rights Radio Network Forum. Also, check over there for all the other Gun Rights Podcasts in our network.

This podcast is our longest yet but there was no way we could separate these three interviews, so enjoy.

Finally Terri gives us an update on the new ProArms store that she and her husband John are building in Live Oak, Florida. They are already selling guns and teaching classes even though right now they are working out of a tiny office.

Kathy Jackson shoots a perfect 300 in the LFI Qualifier. Kathy.jpg
